Parts of U.K still flooded, without power on Christmas

Christmas Day was wet, rather than white, for parts of England.


Areas of south and southeastern England were hit by floods and widespread power outages in the wake of a storm that pummeled Great Britain and France on Dec. 23 and into/through to Christmas Eve.


The storm packed torrential rains and hurricane-force winds, reaching 145 km/h, leading to flight, rail and ferry cancellations.

Egypt’s so-called Ansar Jerusalem (Ansar Bait al-Maqdis in Arabic) declared responsibility on Tuesday for a deadly attack on a security building in the city of Mansoura that killed 14 people and wounded more than 100 others, Egyptian media reported citing a Twitter statement by the group.


Dakahlia Security Directorate was attacked and the operation was carried out successfully thanks be to God and to our Jihadist brothers,” Youm7 news website quoted Ansar Jerusalem’s Twitter statement as saying.

Five wounded in Cairo bomb attack on bus

CAIRO: Security officials say an explosion has hit a public bus in the Egyptian capital Cairo, wounding five people. The officials say the blast went off Thursday morning as the bus passed through Cairo's eastern Nasr City district.


They said the cause was still uncertain but they suspected an explosive device was thrown at the bus or set nearby.


The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the press.

On December 26, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, in total disregard of the strong opposition of the Chinese side, paid a blatant homage to the Yasukuni Shrine where Class-A war criminals of World War II are honored. The Chinese government expresses its strong indignation over the behavior of the Japanese leader which grossly tramples on the sentiment of the Chinese people and other Asian peoples victimized in the war and openly challenges the historical justice and human conscience, and lodges a strong protest and severe condemnation against the Japanese side.
