MSI GS30 Shadow Review and Specifications

How do you combine size, portability and performance? It ‘a question that is difficult to answer, especially in the field of gaming, where the latter are really crucial. Moreover it is known that very powerful hardware configurations require much space, especially to facilitate the cooling of the components. To provide an answer, along a road alternative and original, has tried with his new MSI MSI GS30 Shadow , who joins older brothers GS60 and GS70 already seen in March at CeBIT.

MSI GS30 Shadow Review

MSI GS30 Shadow is in line with the other models dedicated to gamers. Then we find the always beautiful body Stealth broken lines and nerve, whose aggression is further enhanced by the full black color. On the front panel there are also two inserts illuminated by LEDs which help to give a modern look to the GS30 and appealing. The handset has a thickness of only 19.8 mm and a limited weight to 1.3 kg and is thus very compact, also because the display has a diagonal of 13.3 inches . Despite this, the equipment is really very good.

First of all, there is a screen of 2560 x 1440 pixels with a matte finish, perfect for playing and in general to multimedia use, while inside there’s a powerful processor Intel Core i7 flanked by a maximum of 16 GB of RAM . At SSD storage instead provide two units of type M.2 configured in RAID 0 for performance without compromise. As you have noticed but there is something missing and that usually is crucial for a gaming notebook, which is the dedicated video card, and it is here that MSI stands out from other competitors.

Basic fact, the GS30 Shadow merely exploit the IGP Intel Iris Pro 5200 integrated in the processor, which however proved to be able to offer more than enough performance to run even the latest headlines, although obviously with resolutions and graphics settings contained. The idea of MSI fact is that the move is not played for a long time then whoever wants to do it then, for example during a short trip, it can "make do" with the performance of Iris Pro, without going to affect unduly the autonomy, very more important when you are away from home. Once back on the other hand you can connect your laptop to a GamingDock which in turn can be connected to a maximum of two displays that can accommodate any dedicated video card you prefer, both AMD and Nvidia, thus achieving performance without compromise. Indeed, the latter home to DVI and HDMI video outputs as well as other additional USB ports and audio jacks for headphones and microphone, while the GS30 we find two USB 3.0 ports , video output HDMI , a card reader memory SD multi-format, modules Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0 , a 720p webcam and a 4-cell battery.

MSI GS30 Shadow

MSI has shown generically in January 2015 as a launch window for the GamingDock but did not specify whether it will be the same time as the GS30 Shadow or if they will be here before on the market. Although prices have not yet been decided.
