Compaq 201 is the latest mini laptop from Compaq that comes with Atom N270 processor. It has a bright 10.1-inch display with 1024×600 resolution. It retails for $379 (+tax) at most electronic stores.
Measuring 270×193×25, it delivers more than satisfactory performance. The Compaq 201 comes with 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD which is becoming a standard in the recent pine trail netbooks. Unfortunately, for some reason, this does not comes with a pine trail N450 processor.
The keyboard is marvelous. The keys have excellent tactile feedback. The touchpad, on the other hand, has got a mixed reaction from its users due to the missing physical right and left buttons . While the first time users will call it finicky, but once you have used the unit the while, the absence of left and right physical buttons won’t bother you.
Since it runs Windows 7 Starter, Aero is absent. The battery does protrudes out a big but the wonderful battery life those bulgy battery yields makes it worth it. The charger is also very compact.
The overall performance is good. It can even be used for some quick Photoshop touchups.
Final Thoughts: A great netbook which yield satisfactory performance and exceptional battery life. Couple that with an amazing keyboard, we can say, without any doubt that we have a winner in our hands
